New York

New York!
Ahh! For as long as I could remember I've always wanted to go to New York, to see Times Square and walk around Central Park. I never thought I'd ever actually go but through my 6th form art class I was able too!
As it was so long ago I can't remember where we stayed the only things I can, was that our room was always far too hot, baring in mind there was about 4 inches of snow outside we didn't want to be sweating our tits off inside, the window was jammed shut too so that wasn't an option.
My art class and I flew via Amsterdam, 7 hour flight to JFK it went so fast, the plane was huge too, I've never seen a plane that big.

When we got to JFK, I was so happy about getting my passport stamped, was nervous going through customs in case something happened, if you have ever watched Nothing to Declare I thought it was going to be like that. Stepped outside into New York city and it was snowing, it was perfect.

Day 1:
I understand why everyone raves on about Maple syrup, it's bloody amazing, there was a diner next door to our hostel and of course we just had to have pancakes, swear down I felt like I had put on 10 stone during this trip.
We headed over to Central Park first thing we seen was John Lennon's memorial Strawberry Fields, I thought it was be much more than it was, just a mosaic circle on the floor.
After that as we were there on an art trip we had to go to museums, on this day we went to the Metropolitan Museum which I loved, they had a whole Egyptian exhibition on featuring The Temple of Dendur and The Book of the Dead.
Later on we headed to Grand Central, The Chrysler building and The Rockefeller Centre, the views from The Rockefellerwere amazing.
For our tea we went to the Stardust Diner, which was AMAZING, all of the staff sang songs from musicals. I couldn't stop singing along.

 Day 2:
Had our daily pancakes and headed to MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art which is huge I was so happy to see some of Andy Warhol and Frida Kahlo paintings as well as Cindy Sherman's personalities. Next we went to The Empire State Building I was incomplete awe, the views were just breath taking we were outside when the sun started to set which was even better. Before we headed back to our hostel, we had a look around Times Square, its looks so magical in films but it person it's just so much better. We had a look in the souvenir shops and we noticed that we were standing right next to the Earth Cam so we phoned a friends sister to screen shot us on her laptop back home! 8 years later I do realise how sad that is now aha.

Day 3:

Our last day and busiest day.
First we had our last pancakes. Secondly I cried at no more pancakes.
We started off getting the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, we couldn't have picked a crappier day to go it was completely foggy so we didn't get off and I got one photo with the outline of the statue. Next we headed to the Brooklyn Museum which I can say from personal experience was a pile of shit, we done the whole of the museum in one hour and sat in the cafe for another hour. Got back to the city centre and headed for Ground Zero, of course I cried, no one else did. We had tickets to go Ice Skating so we headed to Central Park for the last time, I took photographs of the others as no joke I'm like Bambi on ice.
Our final museum visit was the best, the National History Museum, the one from the movie, Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller? My days, I was like a kid in the playground I didn't want to leave.
As it was our last night there our flight was later that night, we head to the one and only Hard Rock Cafe on Times Square for food and it was amazing! The food and drinks we so pretty to look at and you got to keep the glasses.
The simple things in life.

New York was simply amazing, I will be going back one day I have to whether it be in snow again I'm not bothered as long as I go! It was so cheap too, I bought so much stuff they had to put a heavy load sticker on my suitcase!

Safe travels!

  1. Loved New York when I went years ago! Such an amazing place and you don’t actually need too long there to see and do everything you want!

  2. I know, it's incredible, I wish I could've stayed longer.
